It's kind of hilarious that she still made her big announcement days later. I don't know about this office in particular, but I know that usually if one person knows about something in the office, everyone knows about it. There's no way to avoid the spread of rumors and gossip.

You spend 8-10 hours there per day, which is more than you spend at home every evening. You eat there, you have work events and parties, and sometimes you even talk to your coworkers more than you do with your friends.
Speaking of coworkers, they either make or break your experience at the job. If you're not close with your coworkers, or there are strange feelings between you and them, it can really affect your ability to work efficiently and properly. Feeling like people are against you will never help productivity. But if you go to work feeling like you're surrounded by nice, loving, helpful people then it could make all the difference.
In this story, the protagonist is a man who has an eccentric coworker. She likes to do grand gestures and announcements, which he admits is a nice break from the monotony of the day. She is about to do another reveal, but he steals her thunder. He guesses she's pregnant before she can tell everyone herself, ruining her spotlight.
